研究内容:
粒子物理的任务是在越来越高的能量或者说越来越小的尺度上探索构成物质的基本粒子及其相互作用。上个世纪发展起来的粒子物理标准模型已经在1011电子伏特即100GeV的能量尺度上得到了非常精确的验证。而各种理论和实验的迹象都暗示,在1012电子伏特即TeV的能量尺度上,很可能会有超出标准模型的新物理出现。本领域的研究内容,一方面是提出各种可能存在的新物理模型的设想,另一方面是探究如何在当前和未来的实验中寻找和检验这些新物理模型。目前在瑞士和法国边境上运行的大型强子对撞机(LHC)是有史以来人类建造的能量最高的对撞机,其质心系能量可达到14TeV,因而很有希望发现新物理的迹象。此外,各种暗物质直接和间接探测的实验以及中微子振荡的实验也将为探索新物理提供线索。本方向的研究内容包括但不限于:
1.精确计算强子对撞机高能过程中的各种量子涨落效应,特别是QCD高阶辐射修正和重求和方法的研究。
2.希格斯(Higgs)粒子的性质及其在加速器上物理信号的研究,包括各种新物理模型(例如超对称模型,小希格斯模型,弱高重态希格斯场模型等)所预言的其他新标量粒子的探索。
3.顶夸克物理的研究,包括顶夸克产生和衰变,顶夸克有效场论的研究,探索如何在大型强子对撞机上通过顶夸克粒子寻找新物理信号。
4.暗物质性质以及在非加速器/加速器上物理信号的研究,如利用各种暗物质模型对暗物质直接和间接探测实验的宇宙线观测数据解释的探索。
5.超对称大统一理论,及其在味物理中精确检验的探索。
6.中微子质量起源和混合矩阵的研究,包括在对撞机上探测与其相关的新物理实验信号的研究。

科研成果:
1.在LHC上,希格斯粒子的主要来源是由质子中的胶子组分通过量子效应而产生的,即所谓的胶子融合过程。而胶子正是QCD理论中强相互作用力的携带者,它们之间具有非常复杂的非线性自相互作用。正因为如此,这一碰撞过程受到很强的QCD量子效应的影响,很难做出非常精确的理论预言。杨李林和他的合作者当时正在考察改进对这一过程计算精度的可能性。他们在一次讨论中突然想到,有一类非常重要的量子效应实际上具有一个非常简单的来源。他们进而提出了一种新的方法,可以非常精确地计算这一类量子效应。以此为基础,他们得到了当时世界上对于这一过程最为精确的理论预言。
2.在顶夸克领域的一系列工作成为Tevatron和LHC对撞机上各大实验组在测量顶夸克对产生时采用的标准理论参考文献。基于他们的研究,Tevatron上的D0实验组在历史上首次直接测量到顶夸克在改进的最小减除方案下的质量。他们的工作还被粒子数据工作组(PDG)于2012年发布的新版《粒子物理评论》(Review of Particle Physics)收录。《粒子物理评论》是粒子物理学的权威指南,包括了粒子物理各个领域最重要的进展。
